Cailum created a 2D creature, using three circles, five triangles, one square, four lightening bolts, one pentagon, one hexagon and an octagon. He has called the creature “Z-mont.” He is extra smart because he has three brains. He can shoot lightening bolts out of his hands. He can destroy planets and he is the strongest alien that ever lived.

As the weather forecast for the rest of the week is for dry and sunny weather, I have created different types of tasks for you to complete over the next few days. You have all been working so, so hard this week, writing the ending of Cecil's Adventure in Space. There were so may different, imaginative ways in which you ended the story: there were many asteroids, some were crashed into, some were dodged, some were ridden. The spaceship needed to be re-fuelled (with sweets!!) No two were the same! Well done!

Hello P.5. I hope that you all continue to keep well and keep safe.Today marks the beginning of what should have been the beginning of our Summer Term. Our World Around Us Topic for this term is to be Our Solar System so I have placed a few related pieces of work on our Google Classroom site. Another week has passed P.5 and I hope that you all continue to be safe and well. As Easter approaches we remember the events of Holy Week. We may not be able to gather as a community to celebrate the Death and Resurrection of Jesus, but we will celebrate with our families. I hope that you are all keeping safe and well this week. As we are coming closer to Easter, we try harder to stick to "Our Lenten Promises." It seems so long ago that we discussed them and created our Lenten Display. We remember the love that Jesus has for us and pray to him and Mary our Mother to look after us all. Little did we think that “Green Day,” would be the last day that I would see you for what could be a number of weeks. In our groups, we had the opportunity to act out the story of Moses being found in the Nile by Pharaoh’s daughter.
To celebrate St. Valentines Day we created
To help us understand the Human Digestive System better, we created our own digestive system. We had to encourage the food to travel down our “oesophagus” so we tightened and released the “muscles.” The food mixed with “acid” in the “stomach” and travelled on through the “small intestine.” Here the nutritions seeped into the body, to help it develop and grow.
Jeff McGuffin and Haley Ignew from Kilkeel Fire and Rescue Service, came to talk to us about the different causes of fires and how to best avoid them. They also told us what we should or even shouldn’t do if we ever found ourselves in a situation involving a fire. We were all given “Fire Packs,” at the end of the presentation.

On “Toy Friday,” we had great fun when we took some of our Christmas toys to school and had the opportunity to play with them with our class-mates.

We joined up with the P.6 & 7 class, for a workshop presented by Diane and Jayne from Danske Bank. We discussed the services offered by the bank, budgeting, credit and debt. We then worked together to work out the in comings and out goings of a household. We quickly discovered the difference between needing and wanting..

We demonstrated some of our favourite class activities during our school Open Day.
We worked together to name 3D shapes and list their properties, using the words; faces, edges, vertices, face shape and edge type.
We had great fun this week exploring tangrams. A tangram is a 7 piece 2D puzzle that can be put together to create a variety of pictures using all 7 pieces with no overlapping.
As part of Anti-Bullying Week, we took part in
“Odd Socks Day,” to remind us that we all are similar and we must appreciate our differences.
We worked together to decide on the sequence of a set of given numbers, we had to state the rule and continue the sequence..
We had a “spook-tacular” time at our annual School Hallowe’en Fayre. We all dressed up and had great fun taking part in the Halloween games, creating (and eating) Halloween treats, making Halloween crafts and of course dancing at the Halloween disco. Congratulations to our Halloween Art Competition winner, Annie O’Hagan.
We took the lead in the Harvest Mass Celebrations. We did a fabulous job.
As part of “Gertie’s Coffee Morning,” in aid of the Hospice, we had a ‘not so’ Healthy Break, of Graham’s ice-cream, juice and crisps thanks to the FHC.
We worked together to agree on the criteria we would need to make sure we wrote a good narrative.
This week was Maths Week so we have been creating maths games suitable for the P.1 class. We had a mixture of board games and card games, but we had to keep them simple to make sure the younger children could understand them.

Mr Donnan visited us this week to teach us some Irish, we now can count up to 20, and he told us that we will be counting to 100 very soon, we are so good.

To celebrate World Mental Health Awareness Day, we all dressed in purple. We discussed how we can all work together to be positive and healthy. We developed our Positive People Attitude, using the letters of our names to list our positive qualities.
To celebrate World Poetry Day, we chose to learn and perform “The Song of the Train,” by David McCloud. We had great fun rehearsing it, adding in the sound effects and actions. We then presented it to our fellow pupils and teachers.

Germany was our country of focus for European Day of Languages. We all dressed in the colours of the German flag or as a famous person who was born in Germany. We had the opportunity to taste some authentic Germany food too!
