Primary 7 enjoyed celebrations to mark the end of their journey at Holy Cross. The leavers video provided a lovely trip down memory lane. On Friday, they had their leavers Mass and there wasn’t a dry eye after they sung their leavers song... All the best P7 on your next chapter! ⭐️

We enjoyed a GAA day to celebrate 60 years of Attical club. πŸ’šπŸ’›

The day began with some warm up games before we had a match against each other. Some of us wore Down jerseys and the other half wore Offaly jerseys. It was so much fun. Afterwards, we welcomed a number of people from the club to talk about the work they do. They presented prizes to the winners of the project competition. Thanks also to Conor Laverty from Kilcoo who spoke to us about his sporting journey to date. Everyone had a super day! πŸπŸ†πŸ

Some of us got to try out golf. It was great fun! πŸ˜ƒ

Football matches in St. Colman’s. Well done everyone on your great skills and sportsmanship! 😊

Our end of year school trip was so much fun....πŸ₯³

We started off in the soft play, high ropes and rock climbing area before heading to the inflatables area! We were super lucky and had the place all to ourselves! The day was rounded off with lunch in the sun and some people enjoyed a snooze on the way home. 😴

What a fantastic day at the Titanic centre in Belfast! Everyone had such fun!! 🧳 🚒 πŸ˜ƒ

P6/7 enjoyed a fantastic coaching session this morning from Mr McAleenan and Miss Lavery from St Louis PE department.

This afternoon we welcomed Cllr Michael Rice into our class. He gave an insightful talk about his role as the Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and the issues that he deals with on the job. He also spoke about his love for football and everyone enjoyed asking lots of questions! πŸ™‚

🧁🍩 P6/7 cake sale 🍩🧁

What a morning! Everyone worked tirelessly at home to bake last night and this was the result! There were plenty of happy customers here today and lots bought goodies to share with family at home. We raised an amazing total of £147.15 to go towards our Titanic topic trip! Thank you to everyone for your support πŸ˜€

We got to take our Numeracy outside and explored the properties of different lines. It was great fun! In our groups we then recreated the angle types within parallel lines too! 😎

Developing our netball and football skills during our PE sessions. Many thanks to Rachel for helping out with the girls netball team. We are looking forward to the upcoming matches and tournaments during the summer term. 🏐 πŸ˜€ πŸ€

🌸 Our May Altar 🌸

We took centre stage in our class this week when we were exploring playscripts. After learning about the features of them, we wrote our own continuation of a script entitled ‘The Reluctant Swimmer’. The was some great variety in the scripts and everyone was amazing at acting them out! 🎭 🀩

⭐️ Daily Mile 10th Anniversary ⭐️

It was great to get out and about in the fresh air to celebrate the Daily Mile initiative. Thankfully the rain stayed away too!

We had Margaret from Sentinus who delivered an informative workshop on foods. We had fun using iodine to check if certain foods had starch in them too. πŸ™‚

⭐️ Our Titanic exhibition ⭐️

Everyone in our class worked on a project to make a model of the Titanic or one of the cabins from the ship. The quality of each and every project was just outstanding. We invited the P4 and P5 children in to have a look at the fabulous creations. Then, all staff and pupils in P4 and 5 voted for their favourite. It was so so difficult to choose just one!! Congratulations to our winners:

1st place: Conor Sloan

2nd: Annie and Ella

3rd: Ellen

Runners up: Lorcan, James and Harry.

It was so much fun decorating cupcake nests and designing our own Easter egg. A special thanks to Tracey who was busy baking last night. They tasted delicious. 🧁 πŸ₯°

Also, congratulations to Liam and Emily, winners of the Easter egg design competition. πŸ‘

Easter egg hunt in the playground. We were joined by a special visitor at the end. The rain didn’t wash the smiles off our faces! 🐰 πŸ˜€

In preparation for Easter, we were learning about the Stations of the Cross and what each one represents. We then recreated these in our books. πŸ™

Fun with friends during Golden Time! πŸ‘ πŸ₯° We are really enjoying the new outdoor equipment. ⭐️

This week we worked extremely hard on our fractions to add and subtract with different denominators. We had to make them have a common denominator before completing the calculations. Some of us got to ‘Be the teacher’ to demonstrate. Well done to everyone! β˜‘οΈ πŸ‘

P7 boys and girls attended the ‘Love for Life’ workshop alongside children from Grange P.S. and St. Colmans P.S. The workshop was very informative for all who attended. Thanks to Alice and Tim, who facilitated the workshop.

We headed off to Cranfield beach today to take part in a beach clean. Some of us carried out a survey on the waste types present on the beach before getting stuck in to remove the litter. We gathered a huge amount of waste that would have been extremely harmful for the animals and members of the public. Afterwards we enjoyed some well deserved playtime in the park before we headed back to school. What a productive day… πŸŒπŸ‘

A huge thank you to Conor, Field Officer for Eco schools, for all of his help today.

We took part in a sponsored “Readathon” for Cancer Fund for Children and enjoyed seeing all of the amazing costumes during our parade. What a great day! πŸ˜ƒ

This morning we took part in a Robocode workshop run by Sentinus. We drew on the skills that we have learned from playing scratch and had to code our own MBot. Each time we added another instruction we went back to test it on the track. Some of us managed to get almost the full way round, despite the challenges at the start. Everyone had so much fun! πŸ’»πŸ˜

Pancake Tuesday went down a treat today after our Robotics workshop... πŸ₯žπŸ˜

The theme for Children’s Mental Health Week was ‘Growing Together’... We explored the ways in which we have grown over this past year and shared achievements that have made us proud. We also discussed the importance of being kind to ourselves in order to help our mental health. We looked at influencers on social media and the impact that their content has on us. The interactive activities were great fun too! 😁

Tuesday 8th February was Safer Internet Day and this years theme was ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online.’

We discussed all of the positive uses that we have for the internet but also how the internet can be used irresponsibly. Then, with our partner we created an acrostic poem to help people remember how to show respect to others when online. We enjoyed working together to create these with very important messages! πŸ“±πŸ’»πŸŒ

As part of Catholic Schools Week we celebrated Grandparents Day. We got creative to show our appreciation towards them for all of their love and guidance that they give to us throughout our lives... ❀️πŸ₯°

The theme of Catholic Schools Week this year is “Living Life to the Full”. This afternoon we reflected on how we can do this with God. We reflected on our relationships with God and how he is with us everyday.

We have continued our focus on Explanation texts in class. This week, we explored two of the features in greater depth. We discussed that a glossary is an alphabetical list of key terms that need defined. After watching an explanatory video on ‘How does rain form?’ we noted the key terms on our whiteboard and created our own glossary. 🌧

We were also learning about cause and effect in explanation texts. With a partner we worked to identify examples in some of the Non-fiction books. πŸ‘€

The construction work in the playground didn’t put a stop to PE. We did some Just Dance in the classroom and finished off with some mindful meditation to relax. Thankfully, no one fell asleep! 🧘‍♀️ πŸ™Œ

We designed amazing cover pages for our new World Around Us topic, “Incredible Inventions.” 🌟🌍

It was great fun creating a group explanation text to present to the class this week! We found out a wealth of information! πŸ˜ƒ

Today, we all headed off to Stormont to meet with a number of MLAs and Colum Eastwood, MP to discuss the issue of Climate Change. We talked lots about the changes that we feel leaders need to implement in order to help our planet. We then had a debate in the Senate Chamber about school uniforms and got to bring our own ‘bills’ to the discussion. Once again, we performed our rap for the leaders, which they thoroughly enjoyed! We finished off the day with a question and answer session with Cara Hunter and others about their role as MLAs. Some of you may have even caught a glimpse of us in the Great Hall live on the lunchtime news! 🀩 πŸ“Έ πŸŽ₯

Preparations are in full swing for our Christmas Performance, “It’s A Census, Get Me Out Of Here!” 🎭 🎬

We were learning all about scaled drawings this week. We discussed the different jobs that maybe use these and how they are useful. Then we had a go at enlarging a drawing to the scale factor of 2. Everyone did so well. πŸ™‚

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed today’s lesson based on writing instructions. With a partner, they had to draw a picture and give clear instructions to their partner who followed them. Afterwards, we evaluated our instructions given and thought about how we could improve on them. πŸ™‚

Last week we composed a rap for the SDLP's campaign on the Climate Crisis... This fitted in perfectly with the end of our 'Rainforest' topic as we had been discussing the negative impacts deforestation has on the rainforest but also the wider world. The winners get to go to Stormont to discuss the issues with MLAs. Click the link below to watch the video. We hope you like it! smiley

On Friday we took part in ‘Woolly Hat Day’ to support Mourne Stimulus.

We worked together to identify the features of biographies and autobiographies... Next week we are going to write our own!

β€œBattling it out” with our times tables and division facts! We are very competitive πŸ˜€

The rain didn’t stop us from enjoying our PE. We transformed the classroom and boogied away to Just Dance and GoNoodle! 🌈🌟

We worked in group to create our own β€˜Rainforest rap’ based on everything we have learned during WAU so far. After rehearsing, we performed them for each other and received feedback from our peers. We had great fun! 🎼🎀

We enjoyed writing our Halloween acrostic poems and using the Boomwhackers in music this week! 🎼😎
