Welcome to our P4/P5 Class Page!
We are so looking forward to making new friends, playing and learning together this year. Keep an eye on our page to see all the fun things we are getting up to!
Our lovely 2025/2026 class of Primary 5.
We are loving getting together every afternoon and for PE with Mr Hardy!
Christmas Fun
Take a closer look at us making you all lovely Christmas cards. They turned out amazing!!
Christmas Jumper Day 2025
We had a great festive day in our class, supporting Cancer Fund for Children NI by wearing our Christmas Jumpers for the day! Don't we look fabulous!!
Instruction writing
We really enjoyed creating our Christmas Tree decoration in preparation for our final piece of instructional writing this week. They turned out so well and we couldn't wait to take them home to put on our tree! Thank you to all those who brought in twigs and buttons to help with this activity!
BINGÓ
Mrs Ryan had us on the edge of our seats this week as she brought us in BINGO books to have a round with us! We had the choice of a buí bingo page or a bándearg page. Beforehand, she went through our numbers to ensure we knew which numbers to cross out, and you wont believe it .. but we are now up to counting in the nóchaidí! (90s) she just loves coming into our class and thinks we are just amazing. ![]()
Christmas Play 2025
The boys and girls were absolutely fantastic in our Christmas Play this year. We had such an important job of helping to provide the beautiful singing during the play. We have worked so incredibly hard this last few weeks and it really showed on the night. Well done everyone, we are so proud of you all! ![]()
Ditch the Dark Day and Santa Dash
We made such an amazing effort to make ourselves shine bright! Well done everyone, always shining bright like the stars you are! We showed off our amazing efforts during our Santa Dash Daily Mile which we really enjoyed. Well done to our class winner Emily for her amazing effort to be bright and be seen. ![]()
Advent Season
We have marked the advent season by creating a beautiful display for our classroom. We created the leaves of the wreath by tracing our hands and decorating them with Christmas pictures in different shades of green. Each table then tissue papered a pink or purple candle which represent Hope, Joy, Peace and Love and Miss Rooney made the white candle which represents Christ the Lord. Each week we will 'light' a candle to mark each week of Advent. We weren't the only ones who thought our display was beautiful .. Sprout the Elf made a surprise visit to our class on Tuesday to see it! He loved it too!
'Word Hurdle' and 'Globle'
P5 have been recently loving the new online learning games we have been introduced to. One being 'Word Hurdle.' Have you ever watched the TV Gameshow 'Lingo?' Well, Word Hurdle/Wordle is very similar to it! Most afternoons with Miss Rooney, we have been thinking hard and using our TSPC skills to solve the mystery word each day we play it! When we solve the word, we just go CRAZY with excitement!!
We have also been loving 'Globle' too, which is a similar learning game, except we have to find out what the mystery country of the day is. We have even been using our Atlas' to help us navigate and understand planet earth. This has been sharpening our geography skills and is making us more aware of continents, countries, locations and the world around us. If a country is a very light country, its too far away from the mystery one, but, if the country turns red and the darker the red is, we know we are super close to finding it. It will then turn green once it is found. Miss Rooney was delighted to hear that we have been even playing these learning games at home too to help us be even better at them when we are in school! ![]()
3D Shapes and Nets
We explored how 3D shapes are formed by creating them from nets. A net is a flat pattern that can be folded to make a solid shape. First, we learned about different 3D shapes such as cubes, cuboids, pyramids, and prisms. Then, we carefully cut out printed nets of these shapes. After cutting, we folded along the edges and used glue or stick the faces together. We discussed how we can easily recognise a 3D shape just by looking at the net. For example, if a net had all square faces, we know that the net would make a cube!
Fantastic Flying Angels Procedure writing
We have been learning about procedural writing. We created amazing flying angels and used our knowledge of the features of procedural writing to write our own clear instructions so others can make the angel too! We recorded them so we could generate a QR code for our display... now everyone can listen to our instructions :)
On Tuesday we were delighted to have Dave from Sustrans come into our school again to talk about the importance of Road Safety and how we can choose more 'active' options when it comes to transport. We discussed how we can try to walk more, bike, scoot and even park and stride to help protect our environment, and also how it can keep our bodies and minds healthier. We discussed the importance of being accompanied by an adult if we are ever actively travelling somewhere. We chatted about the do's and don'ts when it comes to being safe on the road, and we discussed the importance of wearing brightly coloured clothing when out and about in the darker evenings of Autumn and Winter. Also - if you are ever out biking, always wear your helmet and remember Dave's 2 finger rule of where it should sit on your head!
Anti-Bullying Week 2025
We started this year's week with our 'Odd sock's Day' and don't we look fabulous!! Our theme this year is 'Power for Good'... we discussed how we all hold the power for good! Standing up for what is right and always remembering to be kind!
Christmas is here.... not quite!
Mrs Sloan got us in the festive spirit super early this week with our tessellation-themed instructional writing (is it ever too early!?) We had been working on tessellation in our 2D shape work with Miss Rooney so we linked this to a lovely Christmas tree craft. We did some excellent shared writing on the instructions needed to be able to create a tessellation Christmas tree (complete with lights). The first part was whole class shared writing and then we split into groups to finish the instructions. We then heard each group's text and gave some peer feedback on what features were included really well and those which could make the instructions clearer! Excellent Working with others on this task!!
In our shape and space learning this week, we have been looking at 'right angles.' We now know that a right angle has 90° ad we can find angles inside shapes, in our classroom, outside and pretty much anywhere! We used our Pac-Man angle finders to search for right angles inside and outside our school. Look at how many we found!! ![]()
We had great fun this week learning about 3D shape. We looked at lots of 3D shapes and discussed their properties. To finish off the lesson, we played Shape Bingo. We had to listen out carefully, as sometimes Miss Rooney either called out the names of the shapes, or, she called out the properties of the shapes which made it a little trickier to look out for. We loved playing Bingo and there were lots of hearts for our jar won and lots of stickers earned too!
Woolly Hat Day 2025
How good do we look in our woolly hats to support our local charity, Mourne Stimulus! We love taking part in Woolly Hat day each year!
PSNI visit
We had Neil and Marie from our local policing team into school on Thursday. They talked to us about road safety, especially in the current dark conditions and they spoke about the dangers of gaming and being online, although most of us don't use online apps just yet. They were so impressed by the knowledge we had on how to keep ourselves safe and shared some really good stories with us!
P5 Fire Safety talk
We had Mervin and Dave in from Kilkeel Fire station this week to talk to us about Fire safety in the home. It was so interesting to hear how things can happen and what we should do in certain circumstances or if there was a fire emergency in our homes or school. We especially noted the importance of testing our smoke alarms at home and having an 'escape plan' should something ever happen. Although it was very interesting, what we definitely enjoyed most was trying on the fire men uniforms... they are so HEAVY!
Halloween Fun in P4 & 5
Check out our AMAZING Halloween costumes! Such a fabulous effort made by everyone and what fun we had with our Halloween art, spooky movie and party!
Prehistoric World.
In our WAU topic we have been learning all about the Prehistoric World. We have especially been focusing on the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. Last week we took a look at Prehistoric Animals. This was very interesting! We could see how some of the animals in todays world are very similar to ones from thousands of years ago! We created some amazing artwork based on this lesson for our class display. Take a look at our amazing work and us in the process of creating it! ![]()
Patterns and relationships problems
This week P4 were working on a patterns problem involving an item getting bigger by a set amount each day... we decided models would make this easier to solve and used unifix cubes, choosing a different colour for each day to help us visualise the solution... we discussed how we could equally use a diagram to help us, but the blocks were fun!
Eco Survey
This week our school Eco team asked that we participate in a survey, run by Stormont, to get our views on how we can help support the environment and what things really matter to us. Some great ideas were shared as part of the online survey which we were able to access using a QR code.
Working on symmetry!
We had great fun exploring reflective symmetry using mirrors. We looked at the concept of symmetry and worked in pairs to create symmetrical images. We can apply this learning to our 2D shapes to decide if they have symmetry... or not!!
A fantastic day on our Sponsored walk... we definitely had tired legs afterwards!
Fact or Opinion?
Tessellation
Today we had great fun in our active numeracy lesson. We learned that tessellation is a pattern made of shapes that fit together perfectly without any gaps or overlaps, covering a surface completely. We used our TSPC skills and decision making when completing this numeracy task to make sure our patterns had no gaps and didn't overlap. Take a look at us below!
Place Value... What value is the digit?
We were learning about how our number system works and have discovered all the ways we can represent numbers. We can write in words, in digits, on a spike abacus and as expanded notation using partitioning!! This week we looked at larger numbers and developed our understanding of the value of the digit in a given place. We had great fun using a spike abacus to represent the value and playing 'Wipe out' for numbers up to 4 digits long!!
Tangrams
This week in our numeracy we were looking at Tangrams. Tangrams are an ancient Chinese puzzle which consist of 7 shapes. With these shapes you can create different pictures. Today we had a go at solving some Tangrams .. it was harder than it looked!! Even Miss Rooney was getting confused! After lots of determination we managed to solve a few. We even had a go at creating our own.
Dinosaur Challenge
P5 had a self-management challenge for our TSPC focus this week... they had to make the tallest brachiosuarus possible out of only paper and tape... AND it had to stand! It was great fun, but really tested their time-management skills and problem solving!
Using Adobe Express!
In World around us we were introduced to our new topic ‘Prehistoric world’. We did our topic planning noting what we know and what we want to find out. We then explored what exactly was meant by the term ‘Prehistoric’, which really defines a huge chunk of history which occurred before written records. We looked at the methods archaeologists and historians used to discover facts about the prehistoric world. In our ICT time, we explored ADOBE Express to create our own Topic cover page for our books. We learned how to create backgrounds using media, add text and elements. I think you will agree they are amazing!
Summer Scavenger Hunt
We had lots of fun finding out about what everyone got up to this summer... it was a great way to get to know some of our new classmates too!
Sharing our favourite summer memories, through our eyes!
We had great fun creating our first class display of the year! We thought about our favourite memory of the summer and shared this with our class mates. We then drew it in the reflection of our sun glasses to make our funky display.... looking cool!!
